Homemade Ginger Beer

Unlike supermarket ginger beer, traditionally made spicy homemade ginger beer contains freshly grated ginger, yeast, and sugar. Such a beverage without preservatives and other chemicals is beneficial for your body.

A simplified recipe will only take two to three days to complete, unlike the authentic version that requires a preparation time of at least 4 to 6 weeks.


  • 25 cups of peeled and grated ginger
  • 5 tsp of cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp of yeast
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 25 cup of lemon juice
  • 4 ­+ 5 cups of water


  1. Add grated ginger, lemon juice, and cream of tartar in a large pot, pour water in it and bring the mixture to a full boil. Then, turn the heat down, add sugar, and stir the mix until it dissolves. The next step is to pour 5 cups of cold water into the pot until the temperature decreases to 75 F (23 C).
  2. Add the yeast and stir it well. Cover the pot with a blanket and let it sit in a dark and warm place for approximately 3 hours. Then, strain it into a large pitcher to remove ginger bits.
  3. Use clean bottles, preferably glass ones with swing tops, and fill them with liquid to 2/3. It is crucial because of the secondary fermentation and process of carbon dioxide creation. Otherwise, you can expect filled bottles to explode due to high internal pressure.
